@TheGlamazonePDM was so inspired by her interview of Jody Watley that she performed as her at her show this week. You look good mama!
We were Ru-watching the past seasons’ Snatch Game and wanted to talk about it. We also wanted to get your opinion. Let’s start with Season 2 (Season 1 didn’t have a Snatch Game).
We had Pandora Boxx do an incredible impersonation of Carol Channing and hit every queue perfectly. She was completely “out of it” the entire time and served a great public service announcement when she represented the “Broadway Actors Against Scurvy.” Her “lovely bunch of coconuts” had us laughing up a storm.
The winner of this season’s Snatch Game was Tatianna, who’s Britney Spears impersonation was hilarious. She was so “Lost” and clueless, how could she not win the challenge?
Jessica Wild as RuPaul, Raven as Paris Hilton, Sahara Davenport as Whitney Houston and Tyra Sanchez as Beyonce were all safe.
But bottom three, Jujubee as Kimora Lee Simmons, Morgan McMichaels as Pink and Sonique as Lady Gaga, made a lack luster performance and ultimately, Morgan and Sonique were Lip Syncing for their lives. Morgan stayed and sent Sonique home.
Do you think there was someone else who should have won?
Do you think someone else should have been in bottom two?[polldaddy poll=8110430]
It’s all the rage, dragging into Maleficent. Ivy Winters shows us how to get it done.
Sherry Vine is at it again, she plays Monica Blewinski and stars in the Katy Perry parody, “Hung Horse.”
We had the great privilege of speaking with one of San Francisco’s most famous drag queens, Miss Pollo Del Mar. We asked her for 20 minutes and took three times that. We’d like to apologize, but speaking with her was so much fun any apology would just come off as fake. We had so much to talk about that we need to break up the interview into a few parts.
Our first segment will help you get to know Pollo Del Mar a little better. She’s a drag queen who has been doing drag since 2006. She carefully calculates all her career moves, has taken the time to get to know her fans, her audience and craft.
We thought it especially cute to hear about her drag family.
DQG: Do you have a drag family, drag mother, drag daughter(s)?
PDM: Oh yes, I am part of a House called the House of Glitter and my drag mother is Landa Lakes. We have a humongous family, we have a huge drag family. And surprisingly tight nit despite how huge we are. In fact every week on Mondays we gather for a public dinner together. Not everyone can attend every week, you know it’s a rotating cast. We love it. It’s a great opportunity for us to spend time together outside of performing together and all of those wonderful things that we always do. I have tons and tons of kids and staying very true to my white trash roots, I have tons and tons of children and don’t know who any of the fathers are.
We were very surprised that the House of Glitter was so close, we can’t even say we have weekly meals with our real family members. What a great sense of family in the drag world.
We asked her who she admired most or looked up to. She couldn’t put her finger on one in particular but she does want to have similar success to Heklinaand Peaches Christ. Heklina is a San Francisco based queen who runs a show called “Trannyshack” which stars queens of all forms. Peaches Christ is also a San Francisco based queen whose events are held in the Castro Theatre and include Apollonia coming in July.
She also recognizes the legendary Lady Bunny (which drag queen couldn’t) and Jimmy James an “iconic 80’s and 90’s Marilyn Monroe impersonator” who made Pollo feel like “a little gay kid who was living in a surreal dream,” when she had dinner with the two of them. But she is also inspired by the queens who are fresh on the scene and hungry to make a name for themselves.
When we agreed with her that her empire was coming soon she had the following to say:
“Well it’s really weird as an entertainer, and a performer or personality to look back on nearly 10 years of your career and to think about each step of the way you don’t really think about how’s it’s going to build up to be a body of work. But when I look back at what has happened for me and all these amazing experiences that I’ve been able to have as a result of performing and doing drag and being in the public eye, it blows me away. Ideally someday somebody will look at what I’ve done and be like, “that was a cool performer, she was a cool queen.”
Pollo Del Mar is definitely a cool queen. We had so much fun and we’re so happy to tell everyone, there’s more of this interview to come, so stay tuned. Also, she’s kind of a control freak, so we definitely won’t let anything get out of control.
We took a look into the next season’s American Horror Story Freak Show. We couldn’t help but think there may be a couple of really good guest stars from the drag world that might fit well with this theme.
The obvious two famous drag queens would be Sharon Needles and Bianca Del Rio. Sharon was definitely a “Fearce” queen with her goth look and sometimes deeply scary costumes. And Bianca, well, c’mon, we crowned the clown. No two queens have been more fit for such a series. But we thought of a few others who might fit into the Freak Show theme.
First, we thought of Raja, who portrayed Carrie as one of her runway looks, definitely into the Horror Story factor, she’d add a little “Freak” to the Show we’re sure.
Our next vote is Milk, who’s unique style and creative costumes would probably fit anything as original as American Horror Story and especially something labeled “Freak Show” since she definitely brought a side of drag most watchers were not used to. She let her freak flag fly and we’re so happy she did.
Of course, Shangela gets our vote because .. well, she could come out of a box and just be done with it. Halleloo
Finally, we thought it would be a grand idea to have someone already hosting a freak show, Edie the Entertainer. She’s currently hosting Zumanity by Cirque de Solei in Las Vegas. She’s clearly seen her share of “Freak Show” and doesn’t scare easily.
Well who doesn’t want to get nailed?
They’re our votes, let us know if you have some queens you think would fit the upcoming season of American Horror Story Freak Show? New episodes start October 15 at 10PM on FX.
Last season’s top 3 RuPaul’s Drag Race contestant, Roxxxy Andrews, has evolved from Pageant Queen to personal make-up artist to her Snatch Game persona, THE Tamar Braxton.
We here at Drag Queens Galore rooted for her last season despite the “Bad Girl” front she portrayed. We felt for her and her emotional confession about her family history. Sadly, not everyone can know their birth family and/or can have what can be deemed as “normal.”
We love her strength and understand the lack of connection can make people be more defensive. Her emotional apology to RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 5 winner, Jinkx Monsoon for the harsh treatment was given prior to the finale personally and also on screen.
This fine beauty has shown us resilience, charisma and talent. We can’t wait to see what’s next for our Season 5 favorite. Always know, your family is who you choose, not who you’re born to.
Thank you Roxxxy, thank you!
