While many people love Christmas or Hanukkah or the winter holiday season in general, for many, their “season to be jolly” is Halloween. No sooner have the “Back To School” sales finished then the Halloween decorations and costumes appear in the aisles of your favorite department stores. Of course that also means the pop up Halloween stores with their elaborate costume selection and their fair share of blood, guts and accessories.
Not only do the stores seem to be getting ready sooner, but our drag community seems to get out there in front of it with as many creepy shows as possible. From the major yearly events like Voss Events’ “Night Of The Living Drag” with many of RuPaul’s Drag Race Alum dressed “to kill” to the local smaller events like Paradise Nightclub in Stockton’s “Freakshow” tonight, Drag Queens everywhere are bringing their best to the shows this season.
We’d expect nothing less, but who will be the queen of Halloween this year? There’s no denying, the drag world was all a buzz last year about “that one girl Gremlin” which traveled around the country with the likes of Phi Phi O’Hara in New York and Peaches Christ in San Francisco. But Phi Phi O’Hara took Halloween to the next level with several different elaborate costumes she made from the ground up. Will she take the crown this year of 2015’s Drag Scream Queen?
What about the costume of the year? Every year around this time, American Horror Story comes out with a new version of its twisted themed horror series and this year is no exception. When American Horror Story meets Lady Gaga it’s like you’re begging for the Drag community to recreate the entire show in every location possible. But we also have “Scream Queens” which does have a more satirical side of horror but does bring out some really “cute” costumes. Both shows are Ryan Murphy’s mind at work, so maybe the queens should go straight to Ryan for some standout ideas.
No matter which costume or which queen stands out this year, we look forward to sharing the looks with you. Share with us your favorite looks on Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr and Google+.
